Leysen actively promote attendance of both clients and candidates to the main testing forums, particularly the BCS Specialist Group in Testing (SIGiST) and EuroSTAR, and also promote awareness of the ISEB/ISTQB testing accreditation exams.
BCS SIGiST
The BCS SIGiST is the main forum for software/system testers in the UK. A wealth of information can be found on their web-site at www.sigist.org.uk where you can also register on-line to receive information automatically relating to future conferences.

These one-day conferences follow a general format of 4-6 presentations on testing related issues given by experienced testing professionals from both the UK and overseas. In addition there is a Book Review, Tips for Testing, Networking Session and Commercial Break. Sometimes breakout groups are organised to discuss specific aspects of testing in the ‘Birds of a Feather’ sessions.

COMPUTER-BASED ISEB/ISTQB FOUNDATION EXAM
You may also not be aware of the fact that as well as four ISEB/ISTQB public paper exam dates per year (for which you have to give 3 weeks notice) you can now sit computer-based exams (two days notice) by attending one of 124 centres in the UK.
For more information, please visit www.2test.com
The combination of the self study program and the computer-based exam process means that you will save a significant amount of time and money in achieving ISEB/ISTQB Foundation accreditation, which now has widespread acceptance in the marketplace. It is seen not only as an illustration of having the basics of testing, but it also ensures that testing teams are all using the same testing terminology. It is therefore becoming more and more necessary for very experienced testers, as well as beginners, to have this accreditation. It is also a pre-requisite for the ISEB/ISTQB Practitioner course. Why not have a look at our on-line demonstration?
The Foundation Certificate provides visible evidence that the individual understands the basics of software testing. The Foundation Certificate has to be acquired before the Practitioner course is taken and is composed of 40 multi-choice questions. Many companies have found it very useful to have all their testing teams sit the Foundation course to ensure that the testing definitions used are common to all. The Foundation Certificate is also becoming a basic requirement by many companies in their recruitment, both on a contract and permanent basis.
Practitioner exam
The ISEB Practitioner Certificate is for experienced testing practitioners. This certificate demonstrates a depth of knowledge of testing topics and the ability to perform testing activities in practice.
ISTQB
Please note that there will be new ISTQB Practitioner exams from 2008 whereby they will be a split to:
Advanced Level Test Manager
Advanced Level Test Analyst
Advanced Level Technical Test Analyst
Leysen offer courses for these individual qualifications from 2009, however ISTQB will recognise holders of the existing ISEB Practitioner Certificate as equivalent to a pass in all three of the above.
ISTQB testing qualifications are recognised worldwide and for those who don’t know, ISTQB is a voluntary organisation set up to establish truly International Software Testing qualifications. As well as the UK there are many other member countries, such as Germany, Austria, USA, Israel, Denmark, Sweden, The Netherlands, Switzerland and Portugal. Further information on ISTQB can be found at www.istqb.org.
